About the Event
Monthly on the last Sunday of the month (except May), 10:30am-12:30pm.
Rain or shine.
At the October date, there is a tree planting in partnership with the Chicago Region Trees Iniaitive (CRTI). Planting Redbud, Speckled Alder (Alnus incana subsp. rugosa), River Birch (betula nigra), Sassafras, Sand Cherry (Prunus pumila), and Black Oak (quercus velutina) - all native trees.
CRTI will bring the trees, mulch, caging, and all necessary tools for planting. After a demonstration on proper planting techniques by CRTI, the trees will be planted and caged by volunteers.
We will plant 15 trees and also incorporate other work-day tasks into the event.
Join friends and neighbors to help clean up and restore the natural area at Kathy Osterman Beach Dunes (also known as Hollywood/Ardmore). Afterwards, stick around to enjoy the sun and a swim in the lake! Please bring your own water bottle and dress for the weather with closed-toe shoes (we have sand burs!) - Meet at the south side of the beach house, just off Hollywood Ave.
- All ages and experience levels are welcome!
- No RSVP usually needed, for the 10/29 tree planting, please do RSVP so we can plan better.
There are accessible places off paved pathways to sit; and water, bike racks, and restrooms right by the meeting place. The activities take place in mostly flat and sandy areas that may be difficult to traverse for people with mobility challenges. Parking in the area is very limited to what you can find on nearby streets. Biking, walking, carpooling, or public transit is recommended. Contact volunteer Community Stewards Renee and Jim at email@example.com with questions.
