About the Event

From Friends of the Parks:

The time has come for the Last 4 Miles initiative to be revitalized with renewed passion and drive to redesign the beloved Chicago lakefront connected just as Daniel Burnham envisioned it.

On June 15th from 12pm to 1:30pm, we invite you to join us virtually for the first Netsch lecture of the year, "Visions and Future Directions of the Last Four Miles."

Today Chicago enjoys 26 miles of lakefront parkland from 71st on the South to Hollywood Ave on the North. But four miles of the city's shoreline - two in the South and two in the North - remain unconnected from the shoreline park.

The lecture will review previous plans to build parks on the last four miles, discuss how erosion and climate change threaten the existence of the current shoreline, and the new opportunities we have during this political moment for action.

Creating and expanding public parkland along the lakefront would bring equal access to the lakefront, stable fiscal benefits, and many other advantages to the neighborhoods involved.

To sign up for the online lecture on June 15th from 12-1:30pm, please use this link to register through zoom:
