EEC in November

Early November Newsletter

Hello EEC friends, community members, and environmental stewards! We hope to see you at our final 2023 monthly general meeting on 11/9, the Pumpkin Smash on 11/4, the final Vedgewater gatherings, the newly scheduled new member orientation on 12/14, and Water events at 6018 North. Special guests for November's meeting are the Illinois Green Alliance to talk about the Building Energy Resource Hub and help us with our efforts around sustainable green housing and development, plus the Community Air Research Experience cohort from Loyola. We will also provide updates on our all our campaigns, with new items for Heritage Trees and Holiday Lights Recycling! Our monthly meetings take place at 6:30 PM every second Thursday of the month, and they are all posted on Events. We look forward to seeing you!

News

As the temperatures drop and the chill has returned, we are almost done with the growing and stewardship activities for the year and coming off a period full of events to close out the warm seasons. Moving into November and December, our focus will be some final outdoor events and reflecting on the year. Then we'll turn to visioning and planning for 2024 and we'll have our annual planning meeting in January.

Community Connections

EcoShip is hosting a holiday collection campaign this season to offer individuals a more sustainable option with dealing with their packaging materials. With 175,000 tons of plastic being thrown out from online orders during this time, we are looking forward to working with fellow Chicagoans to bring that number down. In Case You Missed It

Thank you to everyone to helped prep, and came out to, October's tree planting at Osterman Beach on the final 2023 stewardship day. Special thanks to Mia from Chicago Region Trees Initiative for organizing with us and providing the 14 native trees, Misericordia for joining, and Maria with EEC for the treats and warm drinks!
