New Nature Based Solution Resource Webpage In recent decades, the global environmental crisis caused by climate change has reached a breaking point that can no longer be ignored. Effects of climate change can rapidly destroy an area or cause more prevalent disturbances. One example of this would be shoreline erosion, which has seen a rise to prominence in urban areas such as Chicago. Nature based solutions to shoreline erosion are far more effective than industrial alternatives. We aims to educate the community and encourage the implementation of nature based solutions on Chicago shorelines.

Nature-Based Solutions Walking Tour Join EEC on a guided walking tour of Hollywood/Osterman beach shoreline to learn about nature based solutions. Meet community members and be a part of the solution on Thursday, September 21 at 6:30 pm. RSVP!
This walking tour shows how “green infrastructure” like dunes offer a better solution to shoreline protection. It will explain how natural solutions can safeguard property, create wildlife habitat and build more beaches.
The Army Corps of Engineers is analyzing ways to protect Chicago’s shoreline from rising lake levels. You can help advocate for more environmentally friendly treatments when the decisions are being made.

Water, wind and wave action constantly erode our lakeshore. Traditional protective measures relied on concrete to create a barrier. Nature-based solutions protect while creating a natural edge of beaches and dunes.
